Come Up Higher: Why Many Christians Miss It When Hearing God

12:36

Let’s be real — one of the biggest problems we Christians have today is too much sensuality.

We are too emotional, too physical, too earthly-minded. Everything about us is driven by what we see, feel, or hear. And because of that, we’ve lost our spiritual sharpness.

After seeking the Lord about a lot of things, I realized something deep:

👉 The reason many believers make wrong decisions — even in marriage — is because we live too much in the realm of our senses.

If we’ll ever walk in real peace and clarity, we must learn to live in what I call “the realm of senselessness.”

That means not being controlled by your feelings, but by the Spirit of God.

1. We Are Too Earthly

Our attention is buried in this world — phones, social media, movies, people’s opinions, beauty, emotions… everything pulling our senses in different directions.

No wonder we can’t hear God clearly anymore.

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

— Colossians 3:2

" I beseech[a] you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your [b]reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

— Romans 12:1-2

Because our consciousness is stuck on earthly things, little things easily shake us — lust, heartbreak, anger, depression, jealousy, and so on.

We are reacting to life instead of ruling over it.

That’s why the Bible says:

> “They that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.”

— Romans 8:5

When your senses are louder than your spirit, you will always be confused.

2. Satan Is Using Sensuality to Deceive Many

The devil is smart — he knows he can’t deceive a spiritual person easily, so he hides behind feelings.

He can make a thing look godly when it’s not.

He can make someone feel right when they are totally wrong for you.

“For Satan himself transforms into an angel of light.”

— 2 Corinthians 11:14

Many people said, “God told me he’s the one,” or “God told me she’s my wife,” but years later, they realized it wasn’t God — it was their desires speaking.

They had already made up their mind, and then they added “God said” to it.

Let’s not lie — sometimes we don’t want to hear the truth; we just want God to confirm what we already want.

That’s how Satan manipulates sensual people.

3. To Hear God, You Must Quiet the Noise

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

— Psalm 46:10

God speaks clearly, but not loudly. His voice doesn’t compete with TikTok, your emotions, or your friends’ advice.

If you truly want to know His mind — especially about marriage — you have to quiet the noise and create stillness inside you.

That’s why I said earlier: you must live in the realm of senselessness.

That’s not stupidity — it’s spiritual sensitivity. It means you’re not moved by sight or emotions, but by peace and truth in your spirit.

4. Pray Until Peace Speaks

Many people pray for five minutes, hear nothing, and then make decisions anyhow.

But true prayer doesn’t stop when you finish talking — it stops when peace comes.

> “Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.”

— John 16:24

When you’ve truly prayed through, your heart becomes light and calm — not pressured.

If you still feel anxious or confused after praying, it’s not yet time to decide.

Don’t move until peace settles it.

 5. Don’t Confuse Emotion With Revelation

Sometimes, what we call “the Holy Spirit told me” is actually our own desire echoing back at us.

Let’s be honest — attraction is powerful. A person can be so charming that you start hearing “God said” when it’s really your hormones talking. 😅

That’s why the Bible says:

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”

— Jeremiah 17:9

When your emotions are strong, pause. Don’t rush.

Let your heart cool off before seeking confirmation.

Because God’s voice brings peace, but the flesh brings pressure.

 6. How to Test What You Hear

Don’t believe every voice you hear — test it.

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God.”

— 1 John 4:1

Here’s how to test:

1. Does it agree with Scripture? God never contradicts His Word.

2. Does it give peace, not pressure?

3. Does it glorify God or please your flesh?

4. Has it been confirmed by mature believers or mentors?

If you fail any of these, slow down. The Spirit of God is not in a hurry; He is steady, sure, and calm.

🔹 7. Live in the Presence of God Daily

“Abide in Me, and I in you.”

— John 15:4

Don’t only seek God when you need a spouse or an answer. Live in His presence daily.

When you practice the presence of God consistently, your spiritual senses become sharp.

You begin to recognize His tone, His peace, and His ways.

Holiness also helps you stay tuned to His frequency.

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.”

— Hebrews 12:14

Holiness is not old-fashioned — it’s spiritual sensitivity.

🔹 8. Come Up Higher

“After this I looked, and behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice … said, Come up hither.”

— Revelation 4:1

God is calling you to rise above noise and fleshly living.

Stop running your life by vibes and emotions — start walking by revelation and discernment.

When you live from the realm of the Spirit, your steps become steady. You stop guessing, and start knowing.

Your peace becomes your compass.

Final Words

God is our Father and a Guide.

He won’t force His will on you, but He’ll give you wisdom to choose right.

And if you’ll stay close to Him, you won’t miss it.

So today, make a decision to come up higher.

Turn down the volume of the world, quiet your feelings, and tune in to the gentle whisper of the Spirit.

That’s where true clarity lives.

“Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”

— Galatians 5:16

The more spiritual you become, the less confused you’ll be.

So, come up thither — God is still speaking. You just need to live high enough to hear Him clearly.
