Jesus as the Son of God is an important topic of argument between the Christian and other religions. However, What about another argument there is only one God and God is Jesus, is Jesus God? Some believe in Trinity. I was at work on a particular day been puzzled about this subject matter, when the Holy Spirit came to explain the mystery of GOD to me.
To really understand this topic, let's go back to the creation story in Genesis 1 :
26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." 27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
God was not speaking to Himself, He was actually talking to some Beings here. Who are they? His angels? The Elders? He was actually talking to His Soul and Spirit. God created man in His own image and likeness, which means that we have some similar feature as God. The human nature consist of three things which are the body, soul and spirit and all these three are one. Without any argument, God has a Body, Soul and Spirit and these Three are One. When a man dies, he leaves His body behind, the soul and the spirit enters into eternity. The soul and the spirit are connected, but separable (Hebrews 4:12). To understand this concept, let us now explore the meaning of human body, soul and spirit
BODY: the organized physical substance of a man either living or dead OR the material part or nature of a human being OR the main physical part of a person. The body is a physical shell, it consist of the cells, organs, senses and health. The body is used for hearing, feeling, seeing, etc. and it is temporal and world-conscious.
SOUL: the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body, and commonly held to be separable in existence from the body; the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part. The soul is your mind and is required for reasoning and it is your soul you see in the dream.The soul is the essence of humanity’s being; it is who we are. The soul is responsible for emotion, fruit of the spirit, will, thought, reason, desire, personality, perception, memory, intellect and it is eternal i.e. it is never deing and self-conscious.
SPIRIT: the force within a person that is believed to give the body life, energy, and power. The spirit is the aspect of humanity that connects with God. God communicates with our spirit, because "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." John 4:24 (KJV). It is responsible for faith, supernatural senses, God consciousness and the gift of the Spirit mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12: 1, 8-10
1. Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
It is obvious that the body, soul and spirit are one, yet separable as individuals. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the DIVIDING ASUNDER OF SOUL AND SPIRIT, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12). So also God has a Body, Soul and Spirit are one but is seperabable as Individual.
Haven't understand human as a threefold in nature, we can use the same concept to understand the nature of God since we are created in His image and likeness i.e. we have some feature like Him
1 John 5:7-8 - For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
The Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost are simply the heavenly language for the body, soul and Spirit we use in the world. Without having to prove much concept, it should obvious to you now that there is one God with a Body, Soul and Spirit.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. (John 1:1-4). The Soul is the source of human power and wisdom so also Jesus is the Wisdom and Power of God. "But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God." 1 Cor 1:24.
Jesus portray Himself as Wisdom in Proverbs 8 and as a Being Who has been before the creation.
22 The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. 23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. 25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: 26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. 27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: 28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: 29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: 30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; 31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.
He Himself is God. This is a great mystery which can only be understood if you are spiritual conscious. The Holy Spirit is both the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ. Two people can not share the same Spirit, this portray that Jesus is God and God is Jesus. Jesus proves this in John 10:30 - "I and [my] Father are one." This is surely Godhood! John 1:14 - And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. The Word which created the whole Universe came in the flesh, died on the cross to save humanity from hell, destruction and perdition! During His ministry, He respected and gave glory to the Father, claiming He was sent by the Father. Do you remember that the Father respected and gave glory to Him as written in Psalm18:2 "for thou hast magnified thy Word above all thy name."
1 Corinthians 8:6 But to us [there is but] one God, the Father, of whom [are] all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom [are] all things, and we by him.
You may wonder if Jesus is God as I stated, was He mentioned in the Old testament? Jesus was mentioned in the Old testament as the Son of God. The book of Daniel describes one of the most dramatic appearances of the Son of God in the entire Old Testament. King Nebuchadbezzar in his fury casted three Hebrew children in the furnace of fire for refusing to sin against the second commandment- Thou shalt not bow to any god. He asked them to bow to his image of gold, his god but they refused.
But when the three were in the blaze, Daniel states: "Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, 'Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?' They answered and said to the king, 'True, O king.'
"'Look!' he answered, 'I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God'" (vv. 24-25).
Wow! First time the Son of God was mentioned in the Bible came from the mouth of a pagan. God had actually opened His sight to see beyond the natural. People who does not know or believe Jesus to be their God now, when they face woe and perdition in Hell, they will see the Son of God as He is. it is better to know Him as God know or regret later.
To further establish this, Here are some Bible verses which portray God as Father, Word and Spirit which in Man is known as Body, Soul and Spirit.
Matthew 28:19 - Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
2 Corinthians 13:14 - The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, [be] with you all. Amen.
Matthew 3:16-17 - "And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
John 14:26 - But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Jesus humbled Himself when He came to this world and count it not robbery to equal with the Father:
Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Colossians 2:9, 10 9 For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
1 Peter 1:2 - Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
Ephesians 4:4-6 King James Version (KJV) 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; 5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Conclusion: There is One God with a Divine Body, Soul and Spirit - Father, Word, and Spirit.
1 John 5:7-8 - For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
